Stylistically Gigondas has generally been more rustic than Chateauneuf. However, it is hard to generalise with Gigondas being one of the big winner in the quality stakes in the Rhone. The more modern styles tend to have less aggressive tannins and are less dry and earthy. The Guigal Gigondas is embodiment of this style change. A beautifully balanced wine with lots of ripe fruit that plays out across the long finish. Tannins are there but they underpin the fruit adding complexity to the palate.
